    What each age group will learn?

    These lessons use the Wunderkeys
    Preschool methodology.

    Book 1 will include: 1. symbol-to-sound recognition 2. practicing finger independence and coordination 3. learning aural awareness 4. playing long and short sounds on black keys 5. playing high and low sounds moving higher and lower 6. learning math skills to assist musical understanding

    Book 2 will include: 1. improving finger independence and coordination 2. playing simple, pattern-based melodies on black keys 3. reading preliminary notation 4. improving aural awareness 5. explore simple rhythmic patterns 6. listen for musical patterns 7. learn math skills to assist musical understanding.

    Book 3 will include: 1. playing simple, pattern-based melodies on black keys 2. read off-staff rhythmic notation (quarter, half and whole notes) 3. recognize directional movement in note reading 4. explore “stems pointing up” and “stems pointing down” 5. listen for quarter, half and whole notes 6. learn math skills to assist musical understanding.

    Book 2: students will 1. continue an exploration of the keyboard 2. build hand strength 3. identify notes on the staff using guide notes 4. explore skipping and stepping notes 5. use finger-number clues to identify starting positions 6. read rhythmic notation and strengthen aural awareness 7. begin to acquire confidence playing “out of position”.

    Book 3: students will 1. improve efficiency in cross-staff note reading 2. build hand strength and coordination 3. complete activities designed to improve bilateral abilities 4. read hands-together notes on the grand staff 5. explore hands-together stepping-skipping patterns 6. read rhythmic notation and strengthen aural awareness 7. continue acquiring confidence playing “out of position”. Students will be involved in 2 recitals per year.

  • Prerequisite: 2-3 years of Beginner Lessons

    The Royal Conservatory of Music programming levels 1-4.

    These lessons are for students of any age interested in taking levelled Royal Conservatory of Music repertoire and potential examinations. Once a student completes 2-3 years of beginner lessons, they are ready for the elementary level of Conservatory repertoire, levels 1-4. Students will practice specific technique, repertoire, etudes while improving sight-reading, rhythmic and other musical skills. Theory lessons are encouraged and a co-requisite to some of the RCM certification. Examinations occur through an independent RCM adjudicator.

    45 minute class recommended weekly.

    The Royal Conservatory of Music

    This is for students ready to tackle levels 5-8 of the Royal Conservatory of Music. This will include more intense, lengthier repertoire and etudes while challenging with more technique of scales, triads, arpeggios, etc. Examinations occur through an independent adjudicator. Theory lessons are encouraged and become co-requisites to receiving certification through RCM.

    60 minute classes recommended weekly.

    Wunderkeys Pop Staff Piano library for Older Beginners (book release date Feb. 2022) is a hybrid teaching tool that contains pedagogically appropriate piano pieces, technical exercises, and supplementary activities.

    Learn to read music with an approach that is easy to understand

    Wide variety of music: classical, folk, jazz, blues, and spirituals.

    sightreading and ear-training are integrated into the course.

    3-Minute Technique offers effective exercises for fingers, wrists, and arms, Music Theory pages, review concepts such as intervals, chords and scales.

  • Ages 4-7 using the Singing Lessons for Little Singers “Very Young Beginner” method series.

    Level A and B teach: 1. breath support and sustain 2. vocal registration (high/low voice) 3. vowels and diction 4. resonate tone quality 5. intonation (singing in tune) 6. solfege scale and intervals 7. beat and rhythm 8. reading music 9. expressive movements, gestures and facial expressions 10. performance strategies 11. basic piano and percussion playing

  • Age Range: 5-7

    Teach with the The Full Voice series and methodology and Royal Conservatory of Music Preparatory.

    Introductory Level - Level 3 The Full Voice: Students will learn to 1. sing unaccompanied 2. explore the vocal instrument 3. traditional technical vocal exercises 4. speaking exercises 5. ear-training 6. rhythm reading 7. learning to read music 8. learning to write music 9. exploring the voice and music with the entire body. 10. introduction to sol-fa (moveable Do) 11. clapping and counting basic rhythms.

    30 minute classes recommended weekly. Students will have the opportunity to be involved in 2 recitals per year.

    These lessons are for students who have completed 1-2 years of vocal training and are interested in taking levelled Royal Conservatory of Music repertoire and potential examinations. Students will start with levels 1-4 and work on specific technique and repertoire. They will continue to work on sight-reading, rhythmic and other musical skills. Theory and Piano lessons are encouraged and become a co-requisite for some of the RCM certification. Examinations occur through an independent RCM adjudicator.

  • Prerequisite: Vocal Lessons (4-5 years & Elementary Lessons recommended)

    The Royal Conservatory of Music

    This is for students wanting to continue with the RCM levels 5-8. The pieces will be lengthier and will require singing in other languages. There will also be more technique involved in these levels with added Vocalises. IPA learning is encouraged. Technique is continuing to be improved upon with scales, sight reading, rhythm practice, etc. Piano lessons are encouraged to continue to support the learning and become pre-requisites for vocal certification through RCM. Theory co-requisites are also encourages and required for certification. Examinations still continue to be done through an independent adjudicator.

    60 min. lessons recommended weekly. 2 yearly Recitals. Piano recordings as needed.

Theory Classes

  • Students theory lessons for beginner students are often provided adjacent to the book series the student is learning from during the first year or two of study. This occurs during their instrument of choice lesson time.

    As this can often take away from instrument time, and as a means to move ahead with theory understanding quicker, a student may wish to fast track this learning.

    *Upon request and availability and readiness, a student may sign-up for separate theory lessons using the RCM series.

Group Classes

  • Ages: 3-5

    Students will begin to explore singing using the “Singing Lessons for Little Singers” Very Young Beginner Series A. Students will begin to practice ear training, rhythms, technique and performance. For those students who would like to continue a follow up group class of Series B will follow.

    Groups will be from 3-5 students and will run for 30 minutes. There will be 10 classes.

    Session A $200 for 10 classes.

    Session B $200.00 for 10 classes.

  • Ages: 3-5

    Using the Wunderkey Series for preschoolers, students will be focused on everything they need to know before learning to read notated music. Students will learn to 1. symbol-to-sound recognition 2. practice finger independence and coordination 3. improve aural awareness 4. play long sounds and short sounds on black keys 5. play high sounds and low sounds on black keys 6. play sounds moving higher and lower 7. learn math skills to assist musical understanding. Once completed preschool book 1, 2 and 3 are available.

  • Ages 5-7, 8-10, 10-12

    Using the full-voice Series and Preparatory-level 2 RCM series, students will begin to explore Intro level with singing, ear training, some theory, technical skills and reading of music. Students will collaborate with each other to work through these 8 classes. Once the intro level is completed, levels 1 and 2 of the series will also be offered with RCM level 1 voice repertoire. Each group class will include a culminating task of a recorded performance recital.

    50-min. classes with 3-5 students. Minimum of 3 registrants per class.

    $240 for 8 50 min. classes.

  • Following the Royal Conservatory of Music series, group classes will be offered from levels prep through 8.
